My wife and I received three rounds of IVF at HRC Encino. The process was costly, complicated, stressful, and difficult, all of which we knew going in, and none of which affect my review. There is really one thing that resulted in me writing this review at all: faulty and misleading communication. We were told what we wanted to hear at the beginning of the process, to open our wallets and get us to move forward, and then they changed the story on us when we got to the end. If we'd known at the beginning how they'd handle the situation we ended up in, I'd have an extra $60,000 in my bank account.
We are both carriers for a rare, recessive genetic condition that affects vision. It was recommended to us that we should have a custom genetic probe built for us by a third party company, at a cost of $13k. During this process, we asked about whether we had the option of skipping testing entirely and accepting the risks (we'd already consulted with a geneticist from the NIH, and were aware of the possible outcomes). They said "yes, so long as you sign a waiver". We asked whether we'd be able to use any affected embryos at our discretion, if a test came back positive. We were told "yes, if you consult with a genetic counselor and speak with the doctor".
After the first round, we had 8 fertilized embryos, but only 1 survived. This was an inflection point, and led us to repeat the same questions I listed above, to make sure we were on the same page, and we were assured that it would be our choice.
After we finished the third round, we had 5 embryos sent off for testing. 3 came back positive, one came back inconclusive, and one came back untested, because there was some issue with the biopsy. So now, almost a year and $60k+ into the process, we requested to make use of the two embryos that didn't get a test result back. We were told, in no uncertain terms, that we would not be allowed to use them, because the clinic feels uncomfortable with it. All we got was "I sincerely apologize for the confusion possibly caused by my part".
As I mentioned at the top, if we'd known this at the start, we'd never have agreed to proceed forward at all, and we asked all these questions explicitly, and received answers in writing. This is not a situation of faulty memory, or lack of attention to detail on our part.
I cannot recommend HRC Fertility Clinic highly enough! From start to finish, our experience with this incredible team has been nothing short of exceptional. Dr. Alison Peck was truly remarkable! Her compassionate bedside manner and genuine care made every visit a reassuring and positive experience. Her expertise and support were invaluable throughout our journey.
A special shout-out to Jennifer Montoya, our IVF Coordinator, who was nothing short of delightful. Her dedication, accessibility, and willingness to answer every question and handle all scheduling concerns with grace made a significant difference in our experience.
The entire office staff deserves praise for their kindness and warmth. As an LGBT couple, we felt completely embraced and respected at every step. Their acceptance and support were deeply appreciated and made a challenging process feel much more manageable.
If you're seeking fertility assistance, look no further than HRC Fertility Clinic. Their exceptional care and unwavering support will make all the difference in your journey.
I chose HRC for their competitive pricing on egg freezing. I had a good experience with Dr. Peck and my care coordinator Jennifer.
Dr. Peck explained the whole process of egg freezing and what I could expect at the different stages of the process. During each ultrasound she would turn the screen so that I could watch with her as she measured and counted my follicles. She keept me involved in the process and updated on what she was doing. She was very kind and did an excellent job as my physician throughout the whole process. I felt very safe in her hands.
Jennifer was very on top of scheduling my appointments, and very thorough in providing information about my medication doses and scheduling. She made herself available to answer my questions through email and was very responsive.
Regarding the financial aspect of the process I highly recommend speaking with Paul. The cost of any elective Fertility procedure can be quite prohibitive and and is often not covered by insurance. Paul sat down with me and answered my many, many questions about the cost, the payment options, cost of going through insurance vs paying out of pocket. He was very thoughtful and wrote out a price breakdown of every aspect of every option.
Ultimately there were no hidden fees, or anything like what some of the other reviews I read had said. It just depended on the option/package that you chose since not all include the same things. It also differed if you opted to have any additional add ons (like a full genetic panel). Make sure to ask questions about your options when you go.
Overall I am glad that I chose HRC and Dr. Peck's team.
Entire staff is superb. I love Dr Feinman, super experienced and top of his field. Karla my coordinator was always responsive even on weekends and evenings. My anesthesiologist Dr Colleen was AMAZING. I accidentally drank coffee on extraction day and she worked around this by giving me the perfect amount of whatever concoction she used (I did NOT feel a thing, and btw do NOT drink/eat anything or you may risk having to do this procedure with less than general anasthesia). whole procedure was seamless. LOVE this team 💫💫💫💫💫
Ivy and staff completely unprofessional. Insurance was not checked, verified or even a claim submitted. They immediately sent me a bill for $350 even though I clearly stated before the appointment I could cancel the appointment until they did their part to verify. I know of my coverage and specifically said I can come back another time and I did not sign their form. Dr Feinman told me to just come back into his office so we could discuss and he wouldn't bill me for this appointment as I am a return patient. He also said this to the only other person in the office at the time. This was the same woman who I spoke with when checking in.
I have not been able to reach anyone including him from the office. But they continue to mail a credit card authorization form and bill for $350. I have asked the process to dispute and we are going on 60 days with no follow up. I have never experienced anything like this within the medical industry.
