EDIT: I was diagnosed with vanishing twin syndrome. Fortunately the other baby looks fine. Apparently the odds of this are higher if you conceive twins over the age of 30 and if you have a fertility procedure. Do your own research and ask all the questions, because this information will not likely be readily given to you unless you inquire directly. … I conceived twins here, on the first try! But there are a few reasons for this and my experience here was admittedly…more complex. I have historically had excellent fertility health with no problems naturally conceiving. My partner and I sought treatment here because his sperm is banked and it is the only way for us to have more children at this point. I told Dr. Guner that I wanted an IUI procedure, not an IVF, which is way more expensive and invasive. She did try to make a case for IVF to my partner, but ultimately conceded to my wishes. There are cases to be made in favor of IVF in terms of genetic pre screening, but I imagine they push for it because they make a lot more money doing IVF. I was given follicle stimulating hormones and an ovulation trigger shot. No one really warned me about how intense the trigger shot would be. Honestly that part of the experience was kind of traumatizing. I had the worst cramps of my entire life all night and well into the next day. I spent hours in the bath trying to comfort my sacral area. Thank goodness I took this trip alone and my toddlers were not around, because I did not want anyone to be around me or touch me. I just wish someone would have given me a real heads up about this part, because it sucked. I also felt like my treatment could have been more specialized for my case, as someone who has excellent fertility. It seemed as though I was given the same course of treatment as anyone else who comes here, which could be a huge reason why I conceived twins. Twins do not run in my family and this was definitely the result of medical intervention. The nurse practitioner who did my actual IUI procedure (we really only spoke with Dr. Guner one time and she was not directly involved in actually seeing me) was very kind, and I liked her. Everyone I spoke to seemed to be operating on the assumption that I would need more than one round of treatment in order to conceive. But I did everything to ensure that this would be effective, because again, it costs a lot of money, and because our insurance did not cover anything, we paid out of pocket. Everyone I spoke with (like Sindy) and the nurse I received an actual treatment from was very nice…it just feels like this is definitely a money making operation. I wish my treatment had been a little more customized considering that my fertility has been just fine. And I really wish they were up front with me about the trigger shot, so I could have made a different decision about whether or not I really needed it. As always in medical situations, demand more information, always advocate for yourself and read up on other peoples’ experiences so you really know what to expect. And always listen to your body’s wisdom. Our twins are due in October, and we are thrilled. Wish us luck, we are going to need it! 😉 Sending anyone who has read this far love, safety and comfort on your fertility journey.

Great appreciated the care provided by Dr. Rosen. It matters a great deal to me that my doctors are well-credentialed, experienced, knowledgeable, and can explain complex concepts in plain English. Dr. Rosen met all of these criteria. The journey that patients go on with CRH is often expensive and stressful. The outcomes can be life affirming or devastating. You’d want someone to give you the best advice with the data available to make the best decisions. I relied heavily on Dr. Rosen and went to him with numerous questions, and I would say the result was a success. He's not what one would necessarily describe as warm and fuzzy, but frankly, I didn't care about that. I had regular OB/GYN providers outside of SF who couldn't have been warmer and fuzzier, but on multiple occasions, they were incompetent and caused me immense mental aggravation and unnecessary expenses. When one of them appeared to have failed at a routine procedure, Dr. Rosen even offered to step in to help. As for CRH itself, the staff are professional and pleasant (Cathy was especially helpful), and the facilities are first rate. I would note though that it requires a fair amount of self-initiative to "get going." For instance, I was given a checklist after my initial consultation with Dr. Rosen, and some of the items, including those that involved services outside of CRH, were very time consuming. No one checked on me to see how much progress I was making. I misread one of the checklist requirements and the coordinator did not correct me at first. That misunderstanding ended up delaying my timeline significantly. Advice to other patients, it might be helpful to schedule a regular call with the clinic if you’re serious about getting going on something that has a long lead time. That way, you can make sure you’re staying on track. In any case, I would recommend working with Dr. Rosen and his team.

After a traumatic MMC in November 2022- it took me being not listened to by countless other doctors to finally find myself diagnosed with Ashermans Syndrome in May 2023. Once diagnosed I decided to come to UCSF to see Dr Huddleston and her team as she is known as an expert in the treatment of Asherman’s Syndrome (inter uterine scarring). I cannot say enough about Dr. Huddleston and her whole team. I ended up having 4 surgeries with Dr Huddleston over about 6months to clear the scarring from my uterus. Because of Dr. Huddleston, her team, and UCSF my husband and I just welcomed our 5x🌈 baby and our first one earthside in late February 2025. With my history of recurrent loss, advanced maternal age, and Asherman’s Syndrome we were unsure this was in the cards for us… we do know without the expert skills of Dr Huddleston I would have never have been able to carry our son. We cannot recommend UCSF and Dr Huddleston more highly- we will be going back to her in the next few months to check for reoccurring of scar tissue as we will be trying for a second baby in about a year.

I had a fantastic experience with Dr. Shapiro and all the nurses at UCSF. Throughout the treatment, I felt so supported and in good hands. The facility is so comfortable, clean, and professional. The results of the treatment were positive. I would go back to UCSF again in the future for any future needs!

I don’t typically post reviews however, as the services offered at this clinic can so profoundly help families I wanted to share my positive feedback. While there are many challenges and uncertainties throughout the fertility journey, Dr. Rosen and the entire care team at UCSF Center for Reproductive Health have been so thoughtful, compassionate and attentive throughout the entire process. During each exam and meeting the team has taken care to make sure we feel comfortable and well informed. I feel very lucky to have access to the reproductive services that UCSF offers, and to work with this incredibly patient and caring team. With each step in the process, Dr. Rosen and his team have taken the time to ensure my spouse and I have a full understanding of our options while maintaining realistic expectations for possible outcomes. They proactively work to meet our unique needs and provide consistent support throughout the physical and emotional ups and downs of the process. We can’t thank the team enough!
